Description:
Neighborhood is
generally defined spatially as a specific geographic area and functionally as a
set of social networks. Neighborhoods, then, are the spatial units in which
face-to-face social interactions occur—the personal settings and situations
where residents seek to realize common values, socialize youth, and maintain
effective social control. There are 88 neighborhoods in the City of Long Beach.
This layer is solely for informational purposes only. The City of Long Beach recognizes this layer is currently outdated with the recent release of the new Long Beach City Council district boundaries, effective December 18, 2021. The Long Beach Independent Redistricting Commission received 772 Communities of Interest (COI) form submissions, over 16 hours of public comment, 90 COI map submissions, and 110 partial and full district plan map submissions from community members via a Citywide effort to obtain community feedback. That feedback and map of those new neighborhoods will be reflective in this layer in the coming year (2022).
