Auxiliary lanes refer to short portions of the roadway, typically no longer than two intersections, that move in the same direction of travel as through traffic and assist with speed change, turning, weaving, truck climbing, maneuvering of entering and leaving traffic, and other purposes supplementary to through-traffic movement.

Reported Extent: All principal arterials (functional system 1-3) and sample panel sections. Sample panel sections are any roadways, or parts of roadways, that were identified by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as requiring additional data to be reported in the 2024 HPMS report. Values may be available for other roads but are not maintained.
