Type: Feature Layer

Description:

Number of lanes open to traffic moving in the counter-peak direction during the peak traffic hour, as determined through measurements using traffic counter devices, such as Automatic Traffic Recorders (ATR) and short term counters using tubes. For example, if the peak hour is during the morning rush hour when the majority of the traffic is moving towards a city center, the counter peak lane event layer would identify the number of lanes available for traffic moving away from the city.

Reported Extent: All sample panel sections. Sample panel sections are any roadways, or parts of roadways, that were identified by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as requiring additional data to be reported in the 2024 HPMS report. Values may be available for other roads but are not actively maintained.
