View In:   Map Viewer

Name: TurnLanePeakRestricted_2024

Display Field:

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolyline

Description:

The number of lanes affected and average width of lanes that have travel restrictions during peak traffic hours. During peak traffic hours, cities may allow an extra lane be used by vehicles traveling in the peak direction (direction where traffic is the heaviest), while vehicles in the opposing lane are restricted from using the lane. During off-peak hours, the lanes may be converted to turn lanes or a painted median.

For example, if the peak hour is during the morning rush hour when the majority of the traffic is moving towards a city center, the median may be used as an extra lane for traffic moving towards the city. Once peak traffic hour is over, the lane would convert back to a median or two-way turn lane.
