Description:

The posted maximum speed limit applicable to sections of a roadway. Note, layer does not include temporary speed limits posted within construction areas. Speed limits are reported in the cardinal direction of the roadway for undivided highways and both cardinal and non-cardinal directions on divided highways. In some cases, speed limits may be recorded in the non-cardinal direction on undivided highways. The SpeedLimitDirection field identifies which direction the speed limit applies.

Reported Extent: Sample panel sections, which are any roadways, or parts of roadways, that were identified by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as requiring additional data to be reported in the 2024 HPMS report. Speed limits are optionally recorded for all other roadways.
