The 2010 U.S. Census Tracts geographic dataset was developed by the Syracuse-Onondaga County Planning Agency (SOCPA) for the analysis and display of demographic data in Onondaga County. The shapefile's polygons represent individual census tracts, which were derived from linear features extracted out of SOCPA's Street File dataset. Hard-copy Census Bureau TIGER maps (plotted at 1:10,000) were used to guide the on-screen selection and extraction of linear features from the street file. Fifteen commonly used demographic variables (obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau) are included as attributes for each tract. This dataset includes the City of Syracuse census tracts.

The City of Syracuse Common Council District geographic dataset was created by the Syracuse-Onondaga County Planning Agency (SOCPA) for use in its GIS database. The shapefile consists of polygon features representing each of the five Common Council Districts in the City of Syracuse, as determined by the Onondaga County Board of Elections (BOE). This dataset was created directly from the Onondaga County Election District shapefile by using the "dissolve" command (applied to the CITY_CC attribute) in ArcMap. The only attribute included with this file is a single-character attribute identifying the district number. Updated 2010.
