The geodatabase contains a single feature class that shows three (3) flooding categories. The "1-Nuisance Flooding" (ponding depths greater or equal to 4 in. and less than 1 ft.) and "2-Deep and Contiguous Flooding" (ponding depths 1 ft. and greater) categories were created using hydrologic and hydraulic computer models and represent flood risk due to extreme rainfall. The third category, "3-Future High Tides 2050", shows coastal tidal inundation based on the NYC Panel on Climate Change 90th percentile estimates for the 2050's and is sourced from the NYC Flood Hazard Mapper. Please refer to the New York City Stormwater Resiliency Plan for more information on the purpose of the study, how datasets were developed, applications for this data, and other details.
A coded value domain is used for the "Flooding_Category" field. See Column Info tab of the Data Dictionary for definition of each code.
The New York City Stormwater Flood Maps show areas of potential flooding of at least 0.25 contiguous acres with flood depths of 4 inches or more. This dataset contains some potential flooding areas less than 0.25 acres due to proximity and overlap with masking layers.
2020 and 2010 Neighborhood Tabulation Areas (NTAs) are approximations of New York City neighborhoods created for the purpose of reporting Decennial Census and American Community Survey (ACS) data. 2020 NTAs are aggregations of 2020 census tracts and nest within Community District Tabulation Areas (CDTAs). NTAs were delineated with the need for both geographic specificity and statistical reliability in mind. Consequently, each NTA contains enough population to mitigate sampling error associated with the ACS yet offers a unit of analysis that is smaller than a Community District.
Though NTA boundaries and their associated names roughly correspond with many neighborhoods commonly recognized by New Yorkers, NTAs are not intended to definitively represent neighborhoods, nor are they intended to be exhaustive of all possible names and understandings of neighborhoods throughout New York City. Additionally, non-residential areas including large parks, airports, cemeteries, and other special areas are represented separately within this dataset and are assigned codes according to their type (See NTAType field).
Census Tracts from the 2020 US Census for New York City clipped to the shoreline. These boundary files are derived from the US Census Bureau's TIGER project and have been geographically modified to fit the New York City base map. Because some census tracts are under water not all census tracts are contained in this file, only census tracts that are partially or totally located on land have been mapped in this file.
