Description: This dataset was created through wetland monitoring using a variety of methods and techniques. These methods have been used in wetlands elsewhere as part of monitoring under the NPS-FM (2020). For the wetland condition and pressures indices the scroll plains were assessed in three sections: (Styx/Paerau basin wetlands, Māniatoto basin wetlands, and Taieri Lake / Tunaheketaka). To better understand how the vegetation patterns vary across the Upper Taiari scroll plains, 151 wetland vegetation plots (each 5m ×5m) were surveyed following Clarkson et al. (2004). Clarkson et al.’s (2004) methods link vegetation and soil indicators to assess wetland condition. This wetland sampling method is currently being used by other regional councils (e.g. Clarkson and Bartlam (2017) and Clarkson et al. (2014)). Using a common method will facilitate comparisons at a national level, enabling standardised reporting.

Description: This dataset contains wetland areas >500m^2 which make up the Upper Taieri Scroll Plain system. This data was created for the Otago Regional Council using a range of techniuques including LiDAR and RGBN imagery and their derived indiciess (NDVI, NDWI, DEM, and mSAVI). By using a combination of newly developed wetland modelling tools and traditional spatial analysis tools along with manual identification, wetland polygons were able to be created to very small sizes.
Description: This data has been generated by the Otago Regional Council and notified by MfE for exclusion of this geographic unit from the stock Exclusion Regulations (in August 2023) and demarcates the Upper Taieri Scroll Plains extent for the purpose of regulations 3A and 4 in the Resource Management (Stock Exclusion) Regulations 2020. The extent was delineated using Google Earth satellite images considering hydro-geomorphological features such as annual high water flows, oxbows, flood plains, swamps and ephemeral wetlands.
