Description: This layer represents the aquifers and alluvial ribbons identified in Otago. The majority of the aquifer boundaries were drawn or updated in 2023 for the proposed Land and Water Regional Plan (pLWRP). The boundaries are drawn using either the regional 10m DEM, or LiDAR if available. Overlain was the GNS QMap geological layer and Topo50 - 20m contour lines. QMap is only accurate to +/-100m and therefore review of topography including DEM, and Google Earth helped determine where to exclude basement rocks from inside the aquifer boundary. Aquifer boundaries are only indicative and have been assumed to be held within the lower topography basin sediments.Additionally, it was assumed that the aquifer boundaries do not steeply traverse up and down topography. Bore logs were consulted to help confirm groundwater presence, including a review of the geological log if available. The division between aquifers in the Hawea Basin and Wanaka Basin were based on groundwater modelling results.
