Description:

The origin of this datalayer is the Conservation/Public Lands layer available from NH Granit. In 2014 NRPC refined the geography of existing tracts in the Granit layer to align with the NRPC parcel layer. Furthermore, NRPC mapped hundreds of additional conserved land tracts based upon input from the area's conservation commissions. Most of the additions reflect smaller land tracts that didn't meet the statewide database's inclusion criteria. At the request of our local communities, some tracts lacking conservation significance were removed despite being municipally owned, for example, tax-deed properties. Over time, NRPC abandoned the maintenance of some Granit Conserved/Public Lands attributes and added our own attributes and coded domain values to meet our mapping needs, however, the user should still refer to the NH Granit Conservation/Public Lands Standard as a primary schema reference.

This dataset is informed by the efforts of local conservation commissions to compile and maintain an inventory of conserved lands for management purposes. As additions and corrections are reported to NRPC by our local partners, we conduct careful deed research in order to populate key attributes such as managing agency, primary protecting mechanism(s), and public access.

To note, the relationship between conservation tracts and land parcels is M:N. Tracts may cover more than one parcel, and some parcels are subject to more than one discrete tract area. Discontinuous tracts are mapped as multi-part polygons.

Disclaimer: This dataset is an NRPC interpretation of original source material and maps.
