The SCAC is a unique abbreviation established for each carrier, and is used on freight accounting forms in conjunction with Rule 260 Junction Codes. An AAR (Association of American Railroads) reporting mark is two to four letters that uniquely identifies the owner of a piece of railroad rolling stock. The reporting mark is generally derived from the assigned company's initials. All cars in interchange service must be labeled with a reporting mark.
