All attributes went from groomed to ungroomed EXCEPT the ski center attribute which goes from ungroomed to groomed. Ungroomed is called ski_center and the groomed attribute is called ski_cente2. 20060206 These data were collected by the Middlebury College Geography Department students and faculty during January - April 2002 and January - April 2003. All data were collected using Trimble GeoExplorer 3 units and differentially corrected using the Agency of Transportation base station data located in Montpelier, VT. The base data was 5 second data for the data collected in 2002 and 1 second data for the data collected in 2003. The Trimble GPS units were set to collect data every 6 meters for line features and 1 second for point data. The data were given to Northern Cartographic in 2003 and update to reflect changes in the trail location. Feeder trails were also added. Methods for adding feeder trails and updating trail segments are undocumented. Editing was again done in June 2005, by Kristen Pelz from the Geography Department at Middlebury College. Some sections were edited and attributes were checked for consistancy. Some sections still need updating. Contact Lenore Budd at the Catamount Trail Association for the status of each section. It should be noted that most sections have notes in addition to this metadata. The notes are available upon request. Accuracy is expected to be upwards of 95%. In some places it was difficult to desctiguish between groomed and ungroomed snowmobile trail. According to Trimble specifications, the accuracy should be 2 to 5 meters. Spot checks were completed and all checks confirned the stated accuracy. There were several places where satellite siginals were lost, but only for shor periods of time. In some cases a maximum PDOP of 8 was accepted. Satellite availability became spotty in March and April 2003 corresponding with the Iraq conflict. Sections completed at that time were generally more problematic. They included parts of section P, C and D. Accuracy for the feeder trails and sections added by Northern Cartographic is unknown. computer program Trimble Software used to download and process the data. Base station data used from the Monpelier base station. Data exported to ArcView Shapefiles in Vermont Stateplane Meters NAD83.
